Biography / CV of David Mayne

David Mayne produces work for galleries, public spaces and the domestic environment. His artwork has been commissioned throughout the country and can be found in town centres, rural locations, public buildings and private homes and gardens.

Public Art can range from site-specific landmark sculptures and city centre improvement schemes to smaller more intimate pieces. Community consultation is an important aspect of commissioned work and this can include exhibitions and talks as well as practical workshop sessions.

A variety of different techniques and materials are used to produce both gallery and public artwork. They include coiling, welding, cutting, grinding, rusting, polishing, plating and casting. Mild and stainless steel, bronze, cast-iron, aluminium and stone are all used in this work.

Throughout his career David Mayne has maintained a commitment to education and has worked with schools and colleges across the country, encouraging both children and teachers to participate in sculpture projects.

Qualifications / Education of David Mayne

1982- 1983 Foundation Course, Harrogate Art College
1983- 1986 BA with Honours, Fine Art, Sheffield Polytechnic.

Teaching Experience

David Mayne has 20 years experience of education work in venues ranging from schools, colleges and community settings where he has encouraged both children and adults to participate in and develop new creative skills. He has also run training sessions for teachers and educators.
